Morgan Samuel Price’s landscapes are composed of keen observation and observed fact.
Masterful technique and love of paint allows her to express feelings for light and shadow cast by the moving sun. The work has a freshness and delight of the artist’s faith in nature.
Jean Stern PhD., Executive Director for the Joan Irvine Smith Museum of California Impressionists writes: “Morgan Samuel Price is among the best of the true plein air painters of today, that is to say, artists who paint outdoors with the full conviction that the only way to capture the true, fluid effect of natural light is to paint outdoors, amidst that specific light.
1st Annual Plein Air Convention & Expo April 12-15, 2012
M.Stephen Doherty editor of Plein Air Magazine writes:
One of the most experienced plein air painters who will be demonstrating in Red Rock National Conservation during the 1st Annual PleinAir Convention & Expo from April 12-15, 2012 is Morgan Samuel Price, a Florida artist who maintains a hectic schedule of workshops, plein air events, and exhibitions.
Price grew up in Ohio but moved to Florida to study at the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota. She then traveled to New Mexico to study with Robert Carl Cogar who “pointed me in the right direction, clarified the necessary information which enabled me to develop into the artist I am today,” she recalls. After working and maintaining art studios in Missouri, Oklahoma, and Ohio, Price settled permanently in Altamonte Springs, Florida where she now teaches workshop, produced instructional books and DVDs, and ventures off around the world to paint and teach.
One of the reasons Price is such a popular instructor is that she has the rare ability to explain everything she is doing while offering a demonstration. She carefully describes her materials, her Impressionist painting techniques, and the ways in which she captures the light, color, and beauty of the natural world. Students can watch her demonstration paintings develop from quick compositional sketches through the block-in of shapes and the refinement of details, all while the artist is explaining her procedures and answering questions.
